Sunscreen products: evaluating their efficiency

The evaluation of the effectiveness of suncare products is mainly done in vivo i.e. on volunteers. Caroline Tricaud, Head of L'Oréal’s UV Protection Division, explains how the SPF, Sun Protection Factor, is measured. The measurement, which corresponds to the sun protection index, is carried out according to an internationally standardized method.  Other tests are carried out such as the SPF’s water resistance.
