What is the perpetual rose?
Exclusively created by Lancôme, the perpetual rose was named as such for its resistance to disease, cold and drought. This is a semi-vigorous rose with abundant, almost continuous flowering.
The ingredient extracted from the perpetual rose and used in our products appears in the list of ingredients on the packaging under the name "ROSA HYBRID FLOWER EXTRACT".
Where does the perpetual rose come from?
An ingredient of plant origin extracted from the petals of the Lancôme white rose, perpetual rose is organically grown on the mineral-rich Valensole plateau in Provence, southern France.
What's more, its manufacturing process complies with the principles of green chemistry*. The active ingredient is obtained using a totally innovative ecological process, with no solvent contact with the petals, which are macerated in ethanol before extraction with CO2.
The molecules obtained are very faithful to the original, authentic composition of the flower and very different from the scents and gas profiles obtained using traditional solvents.
* A process using as little energy and water as possible and generating a minimum amount of waste.
What is it used for?
Used in Lancôme skincare products, this rose has been shown to have regenerating and anti-ageing effects on the skin.
-
Stimulates skin regeneration
-
Evens skin tone
-
Anti-ageing action
How does it work?
This rose can reactivate a "longevity activator": AMPK (AMP-activated protein kinase), which declines with age and is involved in skin regeneration. This activation helps to speed up epidermal renewal (the skin's outermost layer), strengthen the barrier function, and synthesise hyaluronic acid. It has a proven anti-ageing effect, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and giving the skin a firmer, denser appearance.
What's more, it has been shown to have an antioxidant action by neutralising harmful free radicals, and an anti-inflammatory effect by preventing cell damage and collagen degradation.
The skin's barrier function is strengthened, promoting the skin's natural ability to renew and regenerate itself.
The facts:
- Perpetual rose has demonstrated strong in vitro efficacy on epidermal homeostasis (epidermal renewal, keratinocyte migration, etc.) as well as on AMPK activation.
- It activates barrier markers such as transglutaminase-1 and KLK7 (Kallikrein-related peptidase 7), and activates antioxidant enzymes such as NQO (NAD(P)H dehydrogenase quinone).
- It also improves the lifespan (from formation to the end of life) and healthy life expectancy (the length of time the skin remains healthy) of keratinocytes (epidermal cells).
How is it used in our products?
Perpetual rose is found in Lancôme's Absolue range and is used for its role in longevity and anti-ageing.
